Can I use Speaker Deck for free, and do viewers need an account?

Yes. A free account lets you upload PDFs and share public presentations, subject to the upload limits. Viewers do not need a Speaker Deck account or a paid subscription to view public decks.

Paid plans add features such as private URLs, password protection, and branding controls. See our pricing page for the current plans.

How do I control who can see my decks?

Public decks can be viewed by anyone. With Pro, you can share a private URL or require a password. A private URL can be forwarded, so share links and passwords only with the people you want to give access to.

Decks set to Only myself cannot be shared with other viewers. See privacy controls and password protection for details. Embedding permissions are separate from who can view a deck.

How do I sign up for Speaker Deck?

Head over to our sign up page. Follow the form to create an account with your details or one of the available sign-in providers.

The username will be part of your URL on Speaker Deck (example: https://speakerdeck.com/jnunemaker). Finally click the Sign Up button below the form.

A few minutes after clicking Sign Up you should receive an email to confirm your account. If you do not receive that email you can contact us directly at [email protected]. Send us the email address and username you signed up with and we will get in touch to activate your account.

How do I upload a deck?

Sign in to your Speaker Deck account and open the upload page. Upload a PDF exported from your presentation software.

Drag your PDF onto the upload area, or choose browse and select to select a file. Wait for the upload and slide processing to finish.

Review the title, description, category, and visibility settings, then choose Save this deck.

How do I share a deck?

Open your deck and use its sharing controls to copy a link or get embed code. In the player, look for the Share button.

  • Link: copy the deck URL to share it by email, messaging, or social media. Player sharing controls can also link to a specific slide.
  • Embed: copy the provided embed code into a website that supports HTML embeds. Your deck's embedding settings must allow it.
  • Social sharing: choose an available sharing service, or paste the copied link into your preferred app.

For non-public decks, check the visibility settings before sharing a link. A password-protected deck still requires its password.

Note: Decks set to Only myself are not shareable.

How do I disallow downloads of my decks?

Disallowing downloads is supported for Pro accounts. If you are a Pro:

  • Go to Account Settings
  • Check the Disallow Downloads box under Settings.
  • Click the Update Profile button.

How do I hide Speaker Deck branding?

Hiding branding when embedding your deck on an external website is supported for Pro accounts. If you are a Pro:

  • Go to Account Settings
  • Check the Hide Branding box under Settings.
  • Click the Update Profile button.

How many decks can I upload?

To prevent abuse, the standard free-account limits are 10 uploads per day and 100 decks in your account. Your account may have different limits. Upload limits do not apply to those with pro accounts.

How large of a deck can I upload?

Free accounts can upload PDFs up to 150 MB per file. Paid accounts may have a higher limit. Sign in and check the upload page for the limit that applies to your account.

Why does my deck look low quality?

We recommend decks that are at least 1920px wide. If they are not as wide as that, sometimes the quality can suffer.

If your deck is at least that wide and you are still having quality issues, please email [email protected] and we'll take a look.

How do I use oEmbed to display a deck on my site?

Public decks on Speaker Deck include an oEmbed discovery link in the page header so it can be automatically detected by sites like Embed.ly.

For more documentation on oEmbed please see oembed.com. Our oEmbed endpoint is: https://speakerdeck.com/oembed.json so requesting an oEmbed would look like this: https://speakerdeck.com/oembed.json?url=URL_OF_THE_DECK

Here is a fully functioning example: https://speakerdeck.com/oembed.json?url=https://speakerdeck.com/jnunemaker/atom

What happens if I follow another user?

Following is a great way to keep up to date with friends or other Speaker Deck users who post decks you are interested in. If you view any profile on Speaker Deck (e.g. @jnunemaker or @orderedlist), you will see an option to Follow the user. If you click the follow button, we will send you an email whenever the user you follow publishes a new deck.

What file types do you support?

Speaker Deck only supports PDF. Most modern deck software will let you export your deck to PDF.

There is a deck that violates the Terms of Service, what should I do?

Please send us a link to the offending deck to [email protected].
