    similar to Rotten Tomatoes • A read-write twitter client that allows users to view and compose tweets using the Twitter API • A read-write Instagram-style app built from the ground up using a custom configured backend
  5. Week 1 : App idea with basic outline of features

    Week 2: Creating product spec + wireframes Week 3: API / Scheme design Week 4: Sprint 1 Week 5: Sprint 2 Week 6: Final sprint + preparing for demos

  7. Roles of a Mentor • Establish a postive relationship with

    students
 • Keep students accountable by helping them set realistic goals
 • Help students develop their software engineering skills with feedback and validation • Help broaden their understanding of the mobile world by sharing helpful resources

  8. NON-roles of a Mentor • Helping students build their apps

    • Answering all of students technical questions (we have TAs for that!)
 • Helping students debug their code
 • Recommending students for a role at your company
 • Conducting mock interviews for students

    the qualities that make you trust them?
  10. Building Trust Commitment - My mentor seems committed to helping

    me achieve my best. Vulnerability - My mentor shares similar struggles they’ve been through Care - My mentor shows interest in me and my concerns Control - My mentor allows me to guide our sessions and gives me time and space to address my questions
  11. Common Mistakes • Not having a concrete plan from the

    beginning
 • Overly ambitious goals for project
 • Not delegating tasks equally
 • Underestimating tasks
 • Not communicating with each other

 • Students have TAs to help with technical support
