Working with people. @rodreegez Jerk MINTDIGITAL
@rodreegez Developer MINTDIGITAL Without getting lynched. Working with people.
Please pay attention.
There will be homework.
Why the hell am I listening to a talk about
people?
Computers are easy.
People are hard.
“The ability to deal with people is as purchasable …
as sugar or coffee, and I will pay more for that ability…
To make great things we have to work together.
And we have to enjoy it.
I suck at this stuff.
None
People did bad work.
People wouldn’t do what I said.
People weren’t focused.
We missed deadlines.
We shipped bugs.
I hated everyone.
Everyone hated me.
This was all my fault.
I needed to make changes.
How to win friends and influence people
Stop Criticising.
It’s the natural response.
But it’s the wrong response.
Wastes time.
Isn’t productive.
Starts a fight.
Nobody backs down.
Congratulations. Your team hates you.
Fix the problem.
Figure out what went wrong.
Work together to prevent it happening again.
“Be hearty in your approbation and lavish in your praise.
Credit where it’s due.
“Great job!”
“Well done!”
“Thank you.”
:shipit:
But don’t be phoney.
Be cool.
None
Keeping your head.
Circle of influence.
Worry about what you can directly control.
Communicate needs.
Get feedback.
Simple steps. Big difference.
Asking questions.
Avoid arguments.
Save face.
Your team are smart. Use them!
Bonus.
In summary...
Don’t criticize.
Work together to fix things.
Give credit.
Be cool.
Ask questions.
But mostly...
Don’t be a jerk!
Homework.
Give someone credit when you wanted to scream.
Help someone fix something.
Ask someone a question.

Highly Effective People. Getting Things Done. Slack.
