This is a picture book made as a fun and educational guide about caring for a crested gecko!

2. Hi! I’m a crested gecko and I’m so excited to meet you! 1
3. I don’t have a name yet, and I can’t wait to see what you’ll name me. This is my best friend! She lives with your friend Finn now. And we’ve had quite the adventure to get to you both in time for Christmas! 2 3

5. We’re from They took good care of us, but we were ready for our next adventure! I can’t wait to meet Zeke and Finn! Me either! 6 7
6. We saw the big city! And the Great Lakes And the Bean And Kansas… there’s nothing in Kansas… And finally made it to beautiful Colorado! 8 9
7. It is a bit cold here though… Which is a great time to show you… 1 0 1 1
8. Did you know that geckos are cold-blooded? That means we don’t make body heat, like you do, so we need our environment to be warm so we can live. Our terrarium needs to be kept between 70-80 degrees F. Nice and toasty! 1 2 1 3
9. We love to eat live crickets! But powdered cricket works too! 1 4 1 5
10. Hydration is very important, so don’t forget to mist our environment daily! Be careful handling us. Don’t pull our tails or be rough! Our tails can fall off and they don’t grow back! 1 6 1 7
11. Did you know our tails are prehensile? That means, like a monkey, we can use our tails to grab onto things and they help us with balance! Crested Geckos who lose their tails are called Frogbutts! I don’t want to be a frogbutt! 1 8 1 9
12. We’re shy! So please be patient with me. I’ll warm up! 2 0 2 1
13. Here are some signs of how we’re feeling! Did you know Crested Geckos can bark and Squeak? But a high-pitched squeak means we’re scared! Please listen to me when I speak up. We can also get “Fired Up”. That means our colors change; they get brighter and stronger when we’re excited, happy, or anxious. It means we’re having BIG feelings! 2 2 2 3
14. We can climb vertical surfaces, including glass! 2 4 2 5
15. Crested Geckos were thought to be extinct until 1995, when they were found on an island near Australia called New Caledonia. Now that you know a lot about me, I can’t wait to learn about you! 2 6 2 7
