Somehow, in the last years, we forgot about one of the things that makes the web awesome: It's decentral nature. This makes the web resistant to a number of threats, including state surveillance and suppression of information among other things.
This slide deck was the intro for a session I gave at jsunconf in April 2014 and sums up my current state of thinking. If future cfp's go well, I intend to turn this into a series of talks that hopefully will help people understand how current trends in web development and startup business are actively hurting the awesomeness and important functions of the web, a once utopian place.
