    Traviata, an Opera in Three Acts • The colors and light of taffeta suggest the vanity and glory of 19th century and the characters. • La Traviata tells a tragic love story between a salon courtesan and a bourgeois from a provincial family.

    the feel of noble party. Courtesans live a luxury and licentious life. • feasting and revelry
  4. Act 1, Scene 1 Color and Texture Lighty and sumptuous

    background. Women in blue taffeta and men in black and dark gray suits.
  5. Violetta costume made of taffeta and lining made of satins

    to create a feeling of live and pretty, together with plastic camellia decoration,to express her cleaning and honesty
  6. Flora costume made of taffeta and satin, with plenty of

    decoration to express her sophistication.

  12. Costume Design for Jitney • Inspiration: Jitney talked about a

    story in 1970s Pittsburg, about several taxi cab drivers’ life. Written by August Wilson, Jitney portrayed a rundown taxi station full of tragedy atmosphere. So under such settings, the costumes should be simple, and the colors should not be too bright.
