  1. QB: 626'S Official Character Mascot! QB is 626’s character mascot

    inspired by retro cartoons and chibi styles, anthropomorphizing the iconic red cube into a friendly little chef! They are used primarily for photo-ops, signage, and 626Sampler integrations. WHO IS QB? For each QB iteration, preparation included using Pinterest for inspiration, sketching thumbnails to generate posing/expression ideas, and then getting approvals/critiques from SPRJ supervisors to hone down on which versions looked best. Execution/Stats depend on the project QB is integrated into PREPARATION + EXECUTION QB’s presence in the night market emphasizes that we are a family-friendly market with widespread appeal. IMPACT
  2. 10X10 Trusses Floating Lanterns My first photo opportunity! Created first

    for San Diego 01, but utilized throughout the night market as needed. It was inspired by the floating lanterns of Taiwan, since 626NM is based of the night markets there. Shown below are the thumbnails, then the two final iterations. SUMMARY
  3. The trusses’ location was dependent on our operations team to

    set-up. SPRJ supervisors decided on its location. ON-SITE EXECUTION Photos are from San Diego 01, and it was stationed near the entrance/exit and the 626 cube. People would snap photos here just before exiting, leading to lots of foot traffic & use. SAN DIEGO 01 My designs were occasionally repurposed for marketing use.   4. 10X10 Trusses Arcadia Collage This photo-op was inspired by scrapbook/collage

    aesthetics, and it also features QB’s first photo op appearance. SUMMARY I needed to ask marketing for photos to edit for the collage, then went through 4 variations on colors before deciding on the rightmost one. This photo-op was not specifically requested by any staff, but something I wanted to accomplish to practice my design skills more. INTER-DEPARTMENT SUPPORT Having location-specific photo ops incentivizes people to take more photos to show their locality. More photos = more exposure through their social media networks. IMPACT
  5. RETRO & KPLZ WKND Mirror Photo Ops Building on top

    of another photo-op idea in San Diego 01, SPRJ supervisor came to me with the idea of creating printed decals for the mirrors. I agreed since this was a chance to integrate QB into the official 626 space, not just 626Sampler. SUMMARY Every mirror photo op, regardless of location or theme, had the same process outlinted in the QB slide. For on-site execution, SPRJ Supervisor led this since they were the ones printing them, gluing it to the mirror, and putting them up on-site. They also determined its placement within the night market. PREPARATION + EXECUTION Themed mirror photo ops emphasized the programming and like the Arcadia Collage, incentivized people to take photos since these were exclusive to that weekend. IMPACT
  6. There was an idea where someone has glued mini-mirrors onto

    their face to look like a disco ball, and I wanted to glue those onto the photo op to create a disco ball. But the reflective nature would not have paired well with the outside setting, so we scrapped that thumbnail. Additionally, the QBs needed to be printed separately from the text/waves for easier pasting on mirrors. RETRO MIRROR DESIGN CUTS There was supposed to be a blue border to cut out a heart and resemble K-POP photo card books. Unfortunately, the heart might not translate well on the curve of the mirrors, since that might distort it, so this idea was cut. KPLZ MIRROR DESIGN CUTS
  7. Cardboard QBs This photo-op was intended to be a standing

    cardboard character for photos, but first prints were too small. They ended up becoming signage. SUMMARY EXECUTION These cardboard QBs helped flesh out QB’s design more since multiple iterations were made. It also helped Info booth stand out more and bring attention to the 626Sampler. The digital versions are vectors and can be used for social media, other special projects, etc. IMPACT Dependent on management to print & cut. I had the idea of taping/gluing velcro to the backs to ensure the QBs would stay in place.
  8. Design Preparation Timeline* Start compiling design inspiration, thumbnailing ideas, and

    creating different versions. Submit for critique. WEEK 3 WEEK 2 Submit in PDF and PNG form with correct color settings for both digital & print use. PRINT SUBMISSION DEADLINE *Not a hard timeline to follow since designing was very independent; it was most important that things were complete by print submission deadlines. Adjust to critiques and resubmit until approvals.
  9. Photo Op Stats 1 truss is about $979 ($400 metal

    rented frame + $225 lighting + $354 10x10 print). For both of my 10x10s, it cost $1,978. The Floating Lanterns was the most versatile print, but the Arcadia Collage garnered more earned media through IG stories. 10X10 TRUSSES (FLOATING LANTERNS + ARCADIA COLLAGE) 1 set of 2 mirrors costed about $175 ($80 mirrors + $60 of transfer tape & removable vinyl + $35 mounting brackets). The design itself took about 3 hours of labor, so about $51. Both retro and KPLZ mirrors totaled about $452, including design labor. MIRROR PHOTO OPS (RETRO + KPLZ WKND) GENERIC, MULTIPURPOSE QBS The only expense were labor costs. Initial poses took about 2 hours ($34~), then additional expressions, hands, feet, etc. would take 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on complexity ($8.50 - $17~). Could not find official budget information on the cardboard cutting/print costs, but based off vendor’s website, $30-$60, then cut out manually by Sahrang. Labor costs are around $60~ for 2-3 hours of work. CARDBOARD QBS
