Getting to board a tender Mavis and Johnny sequence was a departure for me during my time on “Hotel Transylvania 2”, especially because they are two very sincere and innocent characters. I fought the urge to gag it up too much, although I’m always looking for any opportunity to add a wink or a nod. Placing his backpack in the mouth of the stone carved lion’s mouth on the roof is a great example of me trying to find moments of levity. I’m sure I researched the Louvre and saw a photo of a carved lion’s head someone on the museum’s facade, and the joke clicked. But even if I didn’t and just made it up, who’s going to really know? It seemed organic to the location, so we all win.
