This talk will discuss why contributor empowerment is important to creating self-sustaining, highly motivated open source projects. It will briefly examine examples of projects out the wild, discussing their strengths and weaknesses. The session will also discuss the challenge of balancing corporate & business needs with the desires & motivations of an open source community, and propose how a model that puts contribution first can be of greatest benefit to all involved in a project.
