  1. QUESTION TAGS. 2 Question tags are short questions at the

end of sentences. We often use them to check that person we are speaking to agrees with us or to check that we are right. If the sentence is positive, the tag is negative. E.g. She is happy, isn’t she? E.g. They are here, aren’t they?
  2. 3 QUESTION TAGS. If the sentence is negative, the tag

is positive. She isn’t happy, is she? They aren’t here, are they?
  3. QUESTION TAGS. 4 The verb we use in the question

tag depends on the verb used in the sentence. Most verbs use do. E.g. Most people live in big houses, don’t they?
  4. QUESTION TAGS. 5 If the main verb is “be” or

modal verb, we repeat it in the question tag. E.g. This is a big house, isn’t it? We can go to cinema, can’t we? Note: There is always a comma before the question tag. We usually use contractions in the negative form. E.g. You’re very excited, aren’t you?
  5. QUESTION TAGS. o Special Rule o “I am” become, aren’t

    I? o I am not sick, am I? o (Not: amn’t I) o I am late, aren’t I? o I am not late, am I? 6
