Integrating Communities Jenny Wong : @miss_ jwo
Background
I <3 PHP
I <3 WordPress
The mocking of WordPress by PHP is like watching my
parents having a fight every day.
Broken Home
Yes WordPress code quality isn’t great.
Then again PHP has its flaws too
There are not enough developers as it is.
So why are we belittling a subset of developers that
we have?
But we can change this.
Lets fix it.
I am one person
Multi dimensional problems need a multidimensional solution.
Solution 1
WordCamps
PHP conferences
Stop putting them on the same dates!
Solution 2
Someone has to make the first step.
WordPress User Groups
PHP User Groups
Waiting around is boring
Solution 3
WordPress Developers DO want to learn PHP
Help teach them!
Go to their user groups and invite them to the
php community!
Solution 4
Plugin development
Plugins do not have to be at a minimum of
PHP5.2
Solution 5
Welcome
Don’t belittle
Leave the door open
Educate
Support
Mentor
Be cheerleaders
ie. an air hostess. Be hosts
Be empathic
and guide
Yes WordPress isn’t great.
But we can improve one step at a time.
@miss_ jwo Thank You
