How do you capture the attention of your audience in the first minutes of a presentation?
I will provide 3 simple tips that will allow you to own the beginning of any presentation.
Are you ready to become a presentation hero? Let’s get going!
Tip n. 1 is to tell you audience who you are. State your name. Make it clear. Make sure that everyone hears you.
Don’t just say your name. That can be kind of dry.
Make sure to give your audience a hint of what you do in life, of what you are passionate about, of what makes you tick.
Now in the eyes and ears of your audience you are not just a drone, but a real all-round human being. Maybe even a nice one...
So. You’re a human now. That’s great. But let’s continue.
Tip n. 2 is to tell your audience why you are there. Why are you presenting? What is your specific expertise?
Show them how much you care about the subject you are going to talk about.
If you care - chances are - they also will care.
This is the time to explain why both your knowledge and perspective are truly unique. And therefore your presentation is unmissable.
Unveil who you are, explain why you’re there. What’s next?
Tip n. 3 is to Tell your audience why they are there
Provide your audience with a sample of the advantage they will gain by paying attention to your presentation.
Show them a glimpse of the new knowledge that they will acquire by following though till the end.
They were motivated enough to show up, your job now is to provide them with the right incentive to actually pay attention.
Now you can use any or all of these three tips to earn the attention of your audience early and get your presentation off the ground.
