The Emoji Movie - "Wallpaper"

Following directly on the heels of the ‘Loser Lounge’ sequence, Gene and Hi-5 venture out to where no emoji has ever returned from: the phones's forbidden wallpaper. I added a few gags to this sequence that weren’t in the script that I had been trying to find just the right moment for. The first joke was Hi-5 feigning an attack by a monster just outside the messaging app's perimeter wall, only to reveal that it's actually a rubber toy on his finger. As a kid in the 80's, I used to get those colorful wiggly monster finger puppets from gumball machines all the time, and knew I wanted Hi-5 to sport one at some point in the film. The other joke was calling out the recently released "Angry Birds Movie" as a cash grab based on a popular smart phone trend. I felt the irony was apropos.
