place and time, a couple of volunteers show up, typically between 1 and 100 people. There is no need to be registered as a volunteer to participate in a search operation, so everyone that show up might participate. The only condition to participate under the ag of Missing People is that a form is fi lled with name, contact information and under certain circumstances also the personal code number (Swedish: personnummer). This form is kept by the search leader and sometimes handed over to the police authority upon request. The partitioners forms a group and are assigned a sector to perform the search in. The sector assignment is currently a paper map that is handed over to the group. During the search operation, the volunteers are taking notes of things that might be of interest. Often these fi ndings are kept in memory, or sometimes on hand written notes. Missing People is currently using a GIS delivered from Sokigo (formerly Cartesia) called ProLocate (formerly ProSmart). The search personnel is using a ProLocate app on their own handheld devices to send their GPS tracks to a server. When the search operation is ended, after the assigned sector has been covered, the group debriefs with the search leader and reports their fi ndings. On the wish list is the ability to continuously send geo-tagged images and notes whenever a fi nding is discovered, rather than having to keep it in memory or on a paper note until the debrie fi ng. The ability to replace the paper form and the sector assignment during the brief with some other approach is also wished for.
